About V-Day
I know for some guys, Valentines Day is more like Doomsday. V-Day becomes D-day. What to get? Will she like it?
Well it’s important to understand where this holiday came from. There are many different “origins”. Let’s review.
Historians will tell you that it originated from St. Valentine, a Roman who was martyred for refusing to give up Christianity. He died on February 14, 269 A.D., the same day that had been devoted to love, lusty roman lotteries.
Legend also has it that St. Valentine left a farewell note for the jailer’s daughter, who had become his friend, and signed it “From Your Valentine”. So they will say that “Be My Valentine” is derived from that letter.
Loveland, Colorado. That’s right. That is the real name of a town in Colorado. They do alot of business leading up to February 14. Esther Howland sent out the first valentine cards. Commercial valentines were introduced in the 1800′s unofficial official creation of February 14th every year.
Like so many things in history. What really happened and who was responsible. In ancient Rome, February 14th was a holiday to honor Juno. Juno was the Queen of the Roman Gods and Goddesses. The Romans also knew her as the Goddess of women and marriage.
So should it be St. Juno’s Day? We will never really know and who is to say we could change that. People are programmed as it is.
